Govt. Polytechnic College, Mananthavady, Wayanad, Kerala was established in the year 2016  under the Department of Technical Education, Govt of Kerala. The institution was approved by the All India Council for Technical Education.

The administrative wing of the college consists of Academic, Establishment, Examination, Accounts, Bills, Purchase sections. The office follows the Kerala Government service rules and procedures

Civil Engineering Department

The Civil Engg. department established in 2016 offers 3 year Diploma Civil Engineering of intake 60. The academic activities of the Department lays emphasis on deep understanding of fundamental concepts, development of creative ability to handle the challenges of Civil Engineering, and the analytical ability to solve problems which are interdisciplinary in nature. The department consists of a dedicated team of experienced and qualified faculty members who demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Computer Engineering Department

The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 2016 and have faculty strength of 6 and supporting staff members 6 . Currently the department offers Diploma in Computer Engineering with intake 60. As the nature of Computer Engineering has a never-ending cycle of innovation rooted in it, our focus is on increasing the standard of the teaching and learning to gain international importance in academics.

Mechanical Engineering Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2016. The department offers 3 year Diploma program in Mechanical Engineering. At present, the department intake capacity is 60 students per year. The department has competent and committed faculty members to enhance the delivery of academic programs. There are about 5 teaching faculty members in the department. The department has evolved a comprehensive student-centric learning approach, designed to add significant value to the learner's understanding in an integrated manner through workshops, lab sessions, assignments, training, seminars, projects and independent study.

Non-Engineering Department

The non-engineering department consists of faculty members for teaching Communicative English, Technical Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry and Physical Education. These foundation courses form the major components of semester I and II of the diploma Curriculum designed by State Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Kalamassery.

Examination

The Controller of Technical Examination, under the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Kerala is conducting the examinations for diploma programmes in the state. The examinations consists theory and practical examinations at the end of each semester according to the curriculum developed by State Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Kalamassery. The students are graded on the basis of the internal and external assessments and on the marks scored on theory examinations.

01. Admission

The admission to the Polytechnic College diploma courses will start after the announcement of Kerala SSLC results. The admission procedure and the schedule are available in the website www.polyadmision.org
A candidate with eligibility for higher studies in SSLC or equivalent in not more than two chances is eligible for admission. For Engineering programmes SSLC or equivalent with Mathematics , science and english as subjects is necessary. For non-engineering subjects English as a subject is necessary.
The admission Process for seats in Govt colleges and Govt. Quota seats in Self Financing colleges are online. The application forms are available in the website www.polyadmission.org. The candidate has to fill the application online, take print out and submit the application at any of the Polytechnic Colleges in the state on his/her convenience with original certificates as required after remitting the prescribed fees at the polytechnic College. The application for self financing seats other than Govt quota and management seats in aided colleges, please contact the respective polytechnic colleges.

02. Institute, Approval

Govt. Polytechnic College, Mananthavady is established by the Govt. of Kerala under the Directorate of Technical Education, Higher Education Department. The institute and the courses are approved by All India Council for Technical Education, Govt. of India.
There are 3 diploma programmes of 3 year ( 6 semester ) duration namely:
  • Civil Engineering ( intake - 60)
  • Mechanical Engineering  ( intake - 60)
  • Computer Engineering  ( intake - 60)
 

03. Examination

 The evaluation process consists of internal and external. The internal evaluation is on the basis of attendance, assignments and test papers. The External evaluation consists of theory and practical examinations conducted at the end of semesters. The marks obtained in internal and external is considered for calculating the credits earned for courses (subjects).
The students having
  • minimum 75% attendance ( Condonation as applicable)
  • and bonafied record of all laboratory/workshop of that semester 

The students having eligibility for appearing end of semester examination is eligible for promotion to next semester.

Otherwise he/she has to repeat the semester.

How ranking/ pass is determined

Each course consists of credit value. The marks obtained in the internal and external evaluation put together to get the total mark. The mark is brought to 10 system with Grades S, A, B, C, D, E and F. F means credit not obtained(failed). If the credit is not obtained for a course, the candidate has to undergo examination process again. The overall credit value CGPA ( aggregate from semester 1 to 6) is considered to grade the student (out of 10). This cgpa is used for determining whether the student has finished the programme with First Class with Distinction, First Class or Second Class. 

04. Discipline

The student has to wear uniforms prescribes as per Directorate of Technical Education in the campus. They are also directed to wear identity cards. The students should obey the rules and regulations of the institution in class rooms, laboratories/workshops and in campus.
